Area news: Porto Cervo (Poltu Celvu in Gallura, Portu Chervu in Sardinian) is a village in the municipality of Arzachena, in the province of Olbia-Tempio in the north-eastern Sardinia, historical and geographical region known as Gallura. It is the main center of the Costa Smeralda and has a resident population of less than 200 inhabitants. Well-known resort is built around the deep natural harbor, whose shape resembles that of a deer and the headlands overlooking the sea, the curve of the harbor and scattered villas, surrounded by greenery. The center is built on a mezzanine over the harbor, with its famous square, shops, boutiques, and restaurants all around, hotels, clubs and villas climbing up into the hills. The Porto Vecchio dates back to the sixties, when Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, fascinated by the beauty of this stretch of coast, decided to buy the poor lands of this part of Gallura and with the greatest architects of the period, including stands Luigi Vietti, to give life to the haven of the international tourism elite as we know it today. In 1967 was founded the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. In the eighties began work on the construction of the new port, much more spacious and equipped.
