In the fertile land surrounding it grow fruit and vegetables, but especially olive tree and grapevine. The municipality also includes the following villages and localities: Riviera di Sorso, Platamona – Costa Dorata o D’Oro, Arboriamar, Bellisara, Eden Beach, Lu Barrili-Monti, Lu Tuvaraggiu, Marritza, San Michele, Serralonga, Stagno Platamona, Taniga-Malafede, Terrada Sud, Tonnara.

The territory is rich in archaeological remains dating pre-nuraghic. The current village however is of Roman origin and became important religious center in the Middle Ages. From prenuraghic, remain the Domus de Janas (Abbiu) and the site of Geridu between Sorso and Sassari. Are properly attributable to the nuraghic period the nuraghe of Bachileddi, Ruja Sa Corona and San Biagio.
There is also a sacred well called Serra Niedda.  Other sites dominate the Gulf of Asinara. In the V century Carthaginians trasform Sorso in fortress and today remain the only site of Santa Filitica.
During 1300 Sorso changed hands several landowners and was repeatedly attacked and destroyed both restlessness of the citizien of Castelgenovese (the current Castelsardo), and by the Doria family.
In 1436 Sorso and Sennori were sold together to Gonario Gambella and from that moment the fate of the two countries were identical.
The emblem of Sorso both version today and in the old one, reproduces a bootleg that is the symbol of the family Gambella.
After numerous other passages to the property of the country, in 1527 it suffered attack by the French troops of Renzo Orsini then move again across several hands before the redemption of 1838.
Previously, in 1821 became one of the capitals of the province of Sassari. Vittorio Angius in his Dictionary of the Casalis noted in Sorso (summary): “During the period of the militias, Sorso and Sennori, could count on 112 items.”
The history of agriculture and farming of Sorso reveal land highly suited to all crops and poor pastures that provided sustenance of the country while the surplus was sold to Sassari and Porto Torres. Sorso in 1859 was included in the reconstituted Province of Sassari.
